Refuse Area, and Cross Sections Al-A1' through J-J' contained in <br />Euhibit D, Disturbed Area Cross Sections. <br />The design of the reiuae disposal area presented herein is based <br />upon two designs which were submitted by the previous mine <br />operator and approved by the Division during the initial permit <br />term. These designs are summarized below. <br />Initial Deai¢a <br />The initial design for the reiuae disposal area was submitted as <br />pazt of the original permit document submitted by Suadance Coal <br />Company is 1982. Thin design, which was approved by the Divi- <br />sion, incorporated the following design considerations sad con- <br />struction techniques. <br />1. Size and Confi¢uration: The diapoesl azea covered approxi- <br />mately 18 acres sad contemplated a mazi.mum pile height of 145 <br />feet. The design configuration utilized 20-foot wide <br />terraces which ware spaced at 50-foot vertical intervals <br />along the embank®ent elopes. The embankment elopes between <br />terraces ware designed at 3 horizontal to 1 vertical, result- <br />ing is as overall embanl~eat elope of 4 horizontal to 1 <br />vertical. <br />2. Draina¢e: All drainage from undisturbed areas upgrade lrom <br />the refuse disposal site was diverted away from the Bite. <br />All drainage originating oa the reiuae diapoesl area was <br />collected utilizing the terraces described above which <br />directed drainage to sediment collection ditches located <br />along the perimeter of the reiuae disposal azea sad directing <br />it towazda the sedimentation pond located west of the <br />diapoesl site. Additionally, a rock underdraia wan installed <br />along the original Stazkville Culch channel beneath the base <br />of the refuse disposal area to direct all internal drainage <br />from the pile to the sediment pond.
