MDI does not wish to reclaim the mill process concrete pad. The owner intends to raise
cattle upon completion of reclamation and would like to use this pad as a shelter and
dry storage site for feed, hay, medicine, and any other ancillary items necessary to
raise cattle. The other pad will be used to store water tanks.
2. What are the dimensions of the Equipment and Supply Storage Bench and
how will it be reclaimed?
The equipment and supply storage bench is to be located on an area that MDI has
already reclaimed. The supply and equipment storage bench is simply an area that
MDI delineated on the mining plan map for informational purposes. Its size will be
about 100' x 200'. All equipment stored here will either be placed on the surface
temporarily, or in trailers. MDI will exercise great caution when storing supplies and
equipment. Precautions will be taken to prevent intentional release any fluids, oils, or
other substances. MDI anticipates that only the vegetation on the surface in this area
will be affected. After the equipment and supplies have been removed prior to final
reclamation this area will be reclaimed where necessary by reseeding and replanting
damaged vegetation.
3. The application specifies that topsoil stockpiles will be stabilized. Please
indicate, as per rule 6.3.3(1)(b), how the stabilization will be accomplished.
The division may have noticed during past inspections, that there are three stabilized
topsoil stockpiles within.the permit boundary. These stockpiles are labeled on the
pre-mining plan map, and the mining plan map. The stockpiles. were stabilized, to
prevent erosion, by spreading a seed mixture on them.
4. The application indicates that the mine dumps and two (unused) tailings
ponds were reclaimed and the old mill tailings were removed from the streambed.
Please describe the reclamation process and details of this reclamation process
including the final disposition of the tailings and mine dump materials and the
approximate dates the reclamation tasks were completed.
MDI's operator has indicated that the two unused tailings ponds were filled with topsoil,
graded, seeded then mulched. The old mill tailings that were in the streambed were
moved to higher ground and stored in three old shafts outside the permit boundary.
The area that had been occupied by the old mill tailings was then graded, seeded, and
mulched to prevent erosion. The mine dumps were actually consolidated into the larger
wasterock stockpile, for future processing. Again, the previous operations wasterock
and mine dump, will be processed through the flotation mill. All the reclamation
mentioned above took place from June 1995 thru August 1995.
5. The old permit indicated that topsoil would be replaced over all reclaimed
areas to a depth of 6 to 8 inches. Please commit to an equal topsoil replacement
depth.
