Ll
Battle Mountain Rwourcea, inc.
l12 Permit Modification
' temporarily stockpiled on Waste Rock Disposal Area B. Stockpiling will be
achieved within an additional lift on top of the existing Upper lift, and will
' conform to approved slope and setback guidelines. The additional waste rock
will be placed within the permitted bounds of Area B and will not increase the
disturbance area. This temporary lift will be removed and placed as backfill
in the Pink Gneiss area of the West Pit at the end of mine life.
As part of the approved permit, a geotechnical fit;ld investigation of
this waste rock disposal area was completed. In general, Area B is underlain
by relatively deep colluvial/alluvial deposits composed predominantly of
poorly consolidated silty and gravelly sands. The I geotechnical field
investigation is discussed in Section D.3.2.1 and Appendi~r C of the approved
permit.
'
D.3.2.3 West Pit Partial Backfill
i
f
P
ill be
a West
it, w
The West Pit, including the Fink Gne
ss area o
~
vill be backfilled to
partially backfilled with waste rock. A total of
7,564,000 tons of waste rock will be placed as backfill iJM the West Pit area.
Approximately 864,000 tons of this total will come f~om the temporary
t stockpile on Waste Rock Disposal Area B and be placedin the Pink Gneiss
area of the West Pit.

The backfilled area of the pit will be graded at a ominal 1,0 percent
slope to drain to the south and southwest. Control ~of erosion will be
' accomplished in part by the existing series of benches n the pit wall and
selectively placed rixkfill around the backfilUpit wall co~itact. '(
'
Compaction of the backfill will be achieved ugh routing of the
haulage equipment during placement so that minimals ttlement will occur
' after reclamation. Backfill placement will be conductejd in a manner that
produces a final surface capable of free draining.

I'
I'
ay D.5 Jxt o. _
J
