Response: WMI will excavate all recoverable gravel above the bedrock.
;-~ 10. Comment: Please specify the dimensions of any existing or proposed road(s) that
will be used during the mining operation. Describe any improvements
necessary on existing roads and the specifications to be used in
construction of new roads. New or improved roads must be included as
part of the permitted acreage. In addition, please describe any associated
drainage and runoff conveyance structures to include sufficient
information to evaluate structure sizing.
Response: WMI will not construct any permanent roads as part of the amended
mine azea. Existing roads used in association with the Lyons operation
aze part of the currently approved DMG permit for the Rockin' WP site
(Permit No. M-74015).
X11. Comment: The applicant states that a dewatering trench will be constructed to
facilitate mining. Please indicate the dimensions of the trench in the
application, and provide a typical cross section of the dewatering trench.
In addition, please indicate where the water will be pumped and
discharged and/or if any diversion or impoundments will be created.
Response: The evacuation of the dewatering trench is part of the mining process.
Typically, the dewatering trench is excavated azound the perimeter of
the stage to be mined in order to facilitate dewatering prior to
1 excavation and reclamation. Attachment #4, "Mining and Reclamation
Sequence," depicts the excavated dewatering trench in the context of
the mining and reclamation process. Water is discharged per an NPDES
permit.
12. Comment: On Page E-3. the applicant states that two reservoirs aze proposed for
the West Plant site. Will the reservoirs be sealed and capture surface
water, or will they be rechazged by groundwater? Please indicate
appropriate water right and provide designs of how the reservoirs will
be constructed (i.e. pond slopes, material to be used, compaction, inlets,
spillways...) and provide an appropriate cross section.
Response: The proposed water storage reservoirs will not be hydrologically
connected to the St. Vrain Creek alluvium. The right to store water in
the "Rockin' WP Ranch" Lake No. 5 is described in Case No.
' DMG Adequacy Review Response Page 4
