~ - ~
71itt1eApplegate,lnc.
Consultants for Land, Jv1in~ I and Water Development
January 8, 1999
Mr. Carl Mount
Division of Minerals & Geology
1313 Sherman Street, Room 215
Denver, CO 80203
RE: Maryland Creek Ranch; M-96-049
Deaz Carl:
III IIIIIIIIIIIII III
sss
/l,' ~W
This letter and enclosures will serve as our application to you for a Technical Revision on the
Maryland Creek Ranch permit. Also with this letter you will find a check to cover the
application fee of $150.
This Technical Revision encompasses two minor revisions to the permit. First, we are
reconfiguring mining cell 1 so it can function as the settling pond more efficiently. Second, we
are changing the shape of a portion of the shoreline on mining cell two.
Presently L.G. Everist is upgrading some of their crushing, screening, and aggregate washing
equipment. In order to match the settling capacity of the basin in mining cell one to this
upgraded equipment, the configuration in mining cell one must be changed. Presently mining
cell one is an oblong shape in the north/south direction. There is a large stock~~ on the west
side of the mining cell up against the permit boundary. Please refer to our revised Exhibit C.
As part of this revision, the operator will push the overburden stockpile into mining cell one 1
along its west edge. This material will be brought up to a grade equal to the existing ground. J~.
Then the operator will mine out the resource now underneath the stockpile. When the mining is
completed, mining cell one will be divided into two parts in the north/sou[h direction by the dike
of overburden. Water from the wash plant can then be pumped into the western segment of cell
one. The water will then have to travel almost 1,000 feet during its cleansing process. At the
north end of this segment, [he water will drop into the eastern part of cell one which is the clean
water reservoir. From here it will be pumped back [o the wash plant. This configuration creates
a higher capacity and more efficient settling basin.
When mining and processing is complete, we expect that the majority of mining cell one will be ~'lS
filled in with the silt. Because of this, the material that was in the overburden stockpile is no t~S+" _ ta,l,
longer necessary for reclamation. Please refer to our revised Exhibit C for the dike location and rr~'°"~
Exhibit F for a projected size of lake 1.
