-- ..
4. When AVF 1991 cover was adjusted to delete annual, biennial
and noxious weed species, the reclaimed area cover sample mean fell
below the reference area standard. An appropriate T-Test
demonstration showing that reclaimed area cover was not less than
the standard, at the 90$ level of statistical confidence, was
included in the amended document.
5. Concerns expressed in the January 30 letter regarding apparent
paucity of warm season grasses and perennial forbs on East Pit
reclaimed parcels have been satisfactorily addressed. The
Division's 11/6/96 bond release inspection report includes the
following statement:
Species diversity appears to be adequate sitewide. The
warm and cool season grass components and the perennial
forb component were observed in all areas of the
reclaimed site, even in those areas where the phase II
sampling did not "hit" any of these species.
The absence of less abundant species from the sampling data is
undoubtedly due to the small parcel acreages and associated small
sample sizes. It would appear to be appropriate in future bond
release sampling to group the various East Pit dryland pasture
parcels into a single block, for sampling purposes.
6. Sample adequacy for production sampling in the AVF reclaimed
areas was reevaluated using formula recommended in the bond release
guideline, and sample size was shown to be adequate.
Questions regarding production sampling techniques were adequately
addressed with one exception. Were only ^approved species^
included in the AVF production sampling? Field bindweed comprised
a significant relative cover component (10.6$) in the 1991 AVF
area, and could have impacted the success comparison if included in
the production data. This question needs to be addressed.
cc: Larry Routten
miscmine\crkbndr3.mem
