q4 . Messers. Saletta and O'Conner may have over-estimated
the 50 , 000 yd3 waste rock pile . Our surveyor has determined
that the waste rock pile located on the hill above the pilot
plant is approximately 9 , 500 yd3 . Our pilot plant has only
processed 5, 000 tons of material since inception of operations.
Most of this material has been backhauled to the bulk sample
pits from which it was excavated and the pits reclaimed . Some
of the material has been retained for further test work. Most
of the waste rock is from earlier excavations at the plant site
as it was necessary to level the site to provide room for the
pilot plant and laboratory.
15 . The unpermitted pond referred to is the result
of subdividing the permitted overflow reject material storage
area into two sections. The upper is a storage/dewatering area
and the lower a settling pond. Although these matters were
addressed in the approved permit, we will clarify for the Division
the drainage control and tailings and water storage plan.
16 . Messers . Saletta and O ' Conner have made a very
astute observation, however we fail to see the relevance of
this comment. We know of no applicable standard which controls
the number or quality of mine equipment we store on site. Much
of the equipment observed on site is related to exploration
operations or was obtained in anticipation of expanded mine
operations which have not yet begun . It may be of interest
to note that the bulk of the equipment is actually leased or
owned and operated by Centennial Gold Corporation and is stored
on site with Marathon ' s permission. A good portion of the equipment
was obtained by Centennial when it purchased another mining
company owned by a construction contractor . The mine permit
area is being serviced by one front end loader when pilot testing
is underway.
1[7 . Last July, we met with the Division of Wildlife
to discuss their concerns . It was agreed that as part of an
expanded mine permit to be submitted in 1985 that a detailed
wildlife study was to be undertaken.
18 . Only one annual report has been required of us.
It was submitted December 7 , 1984 . We were led to believe that
although it is quite important to submit annual fees in a timely
fashion, the annual report is of a lesser degree of importance.
To the extent that this misunderstanding is our fault, we apologize.
59 . No comment required although we do sincerely
appreciate the inspector giving us a preliminary draft copy
of the recommendations. Such cooperation should be encouraged.
3
