1

t
' MINING PLRN ,~
ESMIBIT D
C & J Gravel Products is requesting an amendment for five (5)
t additional acres to'"the existing Colorado Mined Land Reclamation
Permit No. M-80-14'f, also known as the Montoya Pit.
' The purpose of this amendment is twofold - first the operator
requires more sand and gravel resource; and second mining the
additional five acres requested will be done in a manner to
' remove an existing highwall and enable the operator to reclaim
the pit in accordance with established reclamation standards.
The Hontoya Pit lies wlthin a U-shaped canyon and storage and
' processing area available to the operator is limited. The
additional five acres being requested under this amendment
application will help the reclamation process because an existing
' highwall on the north end of the Montoya Pit will be mined at a
3He1V slope. This mining procedure will not require any
backfilling as mining will occur by pushing material down from
' the top by means of a bulldozer. A front end loader will scoop
up resource for processing only after bulldozing of material has
ceased in order to prevent any accidents. Once the amended area
has been mined to a 3H:1V slope it will be tied into the existing
' pit floor elevation and reclamation of the amended area will
commence.
' It should be pointed out that the five acre amendment area is
owned by the U.S. Government and is managed by the Bureau of Land
Management. As part of C & J Gravel Products permitting process,
application has been made through the local BLH office and
' permission has been granted to mine the area in question.
Additionally, the BLM has a written contract for the sale of
' units of materials with C & J Gravel Products which stipulates
' mining and reclamation procedures to which they must adhere.
Please see the included contract with the BLM for specifics
' relating to mining and reclamation standards. Proprietary
information has been deleted from the contract copy.
1
1

D-1
