Mine Land keclamation board
December 8, 1988
Page 2
the geological formations surrounding them. A more significant
danger arises when one considers that at any given point in time
there may be as many as 200 visitors touring the undereround
caves. I believe that an er.tensive and comprehensive geological
study needs to be completed in order to ascerta'_n any danger of
damage to the cave structures or cave-ins due to blasting either
from the Castle Concrete Company or the proposed Rocky Mountain
Paving mine prior to any approval to mine.
A third objective arises from chat I suspect will be a
significant increase in noise and pollution (particulates, spe-
cifically) to existing and future residents and developments in
the area from the actual mining procedures, as well as, the truck
traffic.
In conclusion, it is my opinion that there are a number of
areas that are open to significant questions relatFVe to the
health and welfare of surrounding property owners, as well as,
tourists and traffic along U.S. Highway 24. I uoul~d like to
officially register my protest regarding the proposed application
for the open pit gravel mine as requested by Rocky Mountain
Paving Company, Inc.
If you have any Questions, please do not hes?rate to contact
me.
Sincerely,
Rita M.
