• The guidelines for drilling procedures on the core rigs are similar to the rotary rigs
with the addition of the following procedures:
- Keep track of the fluid usage and report it in your weeklies.
- Monitor core recovery on a daily basis and immediately notify project
geologist if recovery drops below 90%.
- Make sure drill hole is surveyed (down hole) upon completion.
- Keep close records on hole problems and possible hourly charges.
- If running split tubes logging will be done at the drill site.
LOGGING
The following are major points to be addressed during core logging (refer to attached
example sheet).
CEOTECHNiCAL DATA (See attached geotech data sheet).
- Recovery =Measure between run blocks and divide the actual footage
by the distance noted between blocks (show on log: feet recovered/run
distance).
- RQD =Measure cumulative footage of core pieces longer than 4" (10
• cm) between natural fractures (show: cumulative footage/run interval).
Fractures Per Foot =The number of natural fractures per foot of core
drilled.
- Graphic Notes =Show general orientation and density of fractures to
i the axis of the core.
- Ceotech Description = Describe the fracture surface (ie. rough,
smooth, curved, straight, clay coated, slicked sides, width, etc.).
Detailed Geo-mechanical logging and mapping procedures for geotechnical data gathering
can he found in a separate report titled: Call and Nicholas Geotechnical Logging and
i\~lapping Standards.
GEOLOGIC DATA
- Rock type and alteration should be logged in detail with similar
criteria as descrihed in the rotary logging procedure.
Particular attention should be paid to contracts, structures and visible
mineralization with notes to elaborate in detail.
- Skeleton samples should be taken of major lithologies, alteration types,
• visibly mineralized zones and major ore types. These skeleton sample
(1/~ cut split) locations need to be noted on the log.
