Cattany <br /> Division Director <br />Re: Bowie No. 2 Mine (Permit No. C-1996-083) <br />Technical Revision Application No. 26 (TR-26) <br />Clarification Agent for Pond C Discharge <br />Deaz Mr. Pearson: <br />The Division of Minerals and Geology hereby issues notice, in accordance with Title 34, Article 33, Section 116, Paragraph 4, <br />of the Colorado Revised Statutes, that on June 2, 2003, an application to revise coal mining operations at the Bowie No. 2 Mine <br />was considered complete for the purposes of filing. The revision was submitted by Bowie Resources Limited. All review and <br />comment periods as provided in the Act and the Regulations initiate from this date of filing. <br />Bowie Resources is requesting percussion to use a clarification agent to ensure that the dischazge from Pond C will be in <br />compliance with water quality requirements. The clarification agent is NALCO 7880, which contains aluminum chloride <br />hydroxide and calcium chloride. The clarified water would flow from Pond C into the Deer Trail Ditch and the Fire Mountain <br />Canal. The Colorado Water Quality Control Division has approved the use of the clarification agent for this purpose at the <br />Bowie No. 2 Mine. <br />The underground coal mining operation is on land located approxiaJately 5 miles northeast of Paonia, Colorado. The permit <br />azea is further described as follows: <br />Portions of Sections 2, 3, 4, 5, 8, 9, 10, 11, 14, 15, 16, and 22, Township 13 South, Range 91 West of the 6th P.M. <br />Portions of Sections 33 and 34, Township 12 Soutb, Range 91 West of the 6th P.M. <br />The above-mentioned tracts of land are shown on USGS 7.5 minute Quadrangle map of Bowie. <br />The applicant is required to publish notice in a local newspaper that this application has been deemed complete. At the time of <br />publication of this notice, the applicant is additionally required to place a copy of this application at the Paonia Public Library, <br />140 Grand Avenue, Paonia, CO 81428, and at the Division office.
