An analysis of the data representing the period of record indicates areas where
changes could be made to streamline the sampling program and target
constituents which have a greater probability of being key indicators in an aquifer
system potentially influenced by solution mining activities. Secondly, additional
changes would remove monitoring constituents from the list that yield little or no
value to the monitoring program. Each quarterly ground water monitoring report
previously submitted provides a summary of the baseline descriptive statistics
and descriptive statistics of the operational phase specific to the individual well
and monitoring constituent.
As a result of high natural gas prices and respectively high production costs per
ton of soda ash, the solution mining of nahcolite will be temporarily suspended
and the Yankee Gulch production site mothballed until economic viability is
reestablished. This technical revision will address the interim status period of
time during which the Piceance plant remains in temporary suspension of
production operations and the period of time following the suspension when
commercial production resumes.
Table 3 summarizes the wells, constituents, and frequency of sampling proposed
for the interim status (ISl time period during temporary suspension of
production operations. During the interim status time period. water levels and
water quality sampling would be completed once per quarter for each sampling
