The CDOW recommends that if additional fences are to be constructed on the property they
should be built to allow for the natural movement of wildlife.
CDOW recommends the utilization of wildlife "friendly" fences that should not exceed 42" in
height with a smooth wire bottom strand at least 18" above ground level to allow these animals
to cross without injury. (Pronghorn antelope cross fences by crawling under them. Mule deer
fawns and elk calves also cross under fences. Therefore we emphasize that the bottom strand be
smooth wire.)
The CDOW appreciates this opportunity to comment on the proposed change in the permit for the [3LA
PIT in Custer County and invites you to call if you have any questions about these comments. You can
reach our Westcliffe District Wildlife Manager Rebecca Manly at (7] 9) 429-0196.
Sincerely, ~/ y~
~~ Imo. /~C
Mark B.
