EXHIR7T D
WILDLIFE INFORMATION .•9
A wildlife survey of the area indicates that the
Affected Lands (or the area of mining operations) have limited
value for wildlife. The area has been mined discontinuously
since 1963 with visible evidence of intrusion. There are
limited quantities of grasses in the pit area consisting of
Arizonias fescue, Mountain muhly and wheat grasses.
Populations of Burrowing Rodents and Cottontail
rabbits have been observed at the mine site with seasonal visi-
tations by deer and elk. Jackrabbit, Grouse, Beaver, Muskrat
and a few small Brooktrout have been seen in adjacent areas.
Non-game species observed include: Coyote, Red Fox, Bluebirds,
Canadian Jay, Chickadees, Magpies, and Porcupine.
Mr. Jelen plans to mine at this location from
June 1, 1984 until mid-December. Operations will then cease
thus avoiding the winter range feeding period of deer and elk
in late winter. Since the total area affected by this project
is small, little or no adverse impact is anticipated from the
proposed actions.
No threatened or endangered species are known to
inhabit or visit the mine site or the surrounding land.
Following the completion of mining, the disturbed
area will be reseeded with a grass mixture suitable for graz-
ing by deer and elk.
