Cattany <br />Acting Division Director <br />The Division has completed review of responses received the permit application for renewal of <br />the coal mining permit for the Raton Creek mine. Please respond to any comments or issues <br />as necessary considering a decision deadline of June 25, 2002. <br />Response accepted. <br />2. Response accepted. <br />3. Page 22 of section 2.03 incorrectly identifies the mine as the Southfield Mine. Also, <br />effective dates for the DMG permit and the NPDES permit should be updated. Please <br />update section 2.03.10 (page 22) regarding other licenses and permits. <br />4. Response accepted. <br />Additional issues of September 5, 2002 <br />The Division has reviewed the SEDCAD+ documentation submitted in response to the <br />question of pond performance and water quality estimates with regard to sediment <br />loading. Based on these estimates, it appears that the as-built configuration of the <br />sediment pond is adequate for effective sediment control and water quality treatment. <br />Please ensure that storm discharges are sampled on an opportunistic basis. The <br />Division will attempt to collect a sample should the opportunity present itself during an <br />inspection visit. <br />
