It is anticipated that only 50 feet of
this mineral can be excavated using the present open-pit technique.
Future economics will dictate whether underground mining will
be employed for the remaining mineral within this pit area.
It is the overall mining plan to extract all possible mineable
mineral material from the quarry area of the major disturbance
zone before any reclamation work is initiated in this area.
A future consideration plan (10 plus years from now) of a possible
removal of overburden materials to the northeast of the present
quart y area would permit a continued mining effort in a north-
easterly direction. Phased reclamation would then be initiated
• for those mined out areas to the west. Drilling has revealed an
overburden 15 to 40 foot in depth before mineable mineral
is encountered.
The mined land reclamation board will be kept informed of
all aspects of this future consideration plan through the
required annual reports.
Nature of Stratum
This gypsum and associated mineral deposit occurs within a
typical limestone, sandstone, shale formation which has been
folded, and block faulted. Limestone lies beneath this particular
deposit. The 22 to 32 year life of mine entails 19.8 acres of
major-disturbed land. All roads have existed since 1968 and
will be utilized for the life of this mine. No other roads are
• to be constructed.
D-2
