.~
III IIIIIIIIIIIII III
999
Technical Revision Application
Backfilling. Grading and Hydrologic Control Plans
The Ohio Creek Coal Mine has ceased operation and is in the process of reclaiming its OC #2
Mine. The following backfilling and grading plan will be implemented in two phases to reclaim the
disturbed area, approximately 3.22 acres. Phase [includes the tasks below and assumes that the
portals have been backfilled and the buildings and coal handling facilities have been removed and
the trash has been hauled from the site and disposed of in an approved manner.
1. Removal of the coal fines/refuse from the tipple bench out slope and placement of the
coaUrefuse against the toe of the tipple bench cut slope for burial,
2. Removal of the pickup bed and other structures from the ditch directing surface water off the
tipple bench to the collection ditch going to the sedimentation pond. The truck bed will be
scrapped or disposed of in an appropriate landfill. The concrete will be placed against the toe of
the tipple bench cut slope for burial,
3. Removal and/or burial of the concrete structures and foundations. The concrete will be either
be placed at the toe of the bench cut slope or buried in place provided it is covered a minimum of
four feet of fill,
4. Grading of the portal and tipple benches to the approximate original contour using materials on
site, estimated at 8,500 bank cubic yards. The portion of the mine road just east of the branching
to the benches will be left in place to provide Gunnison County Road Commission with a tum
around for their snow plows.
5. Grading of the subsidence expression in the area behind the portals and uphill of the fence on
the west side of the mine disturbed area with material from the bench areas. The subsidence
expression immediately behind the portal will be graded as part of the portal bench reclamation.
The remaining subsidence expressions, similar to gullies caused by erosion, are on both sides of
and within thirty feet of the fence on the west side of the disturbed area. The filly will be mounded
6" to 12" high to provide material to repair any settling that occurs in the future. These areas were
identified on the site visit conducted during September, 1995.
All Phase I areas including the subsidence repair will be seeded with the approved seed mix and
seeding schedule.
Phase II includes the removal of the upper diversion ditch, D-3 and D-4, the lower collection
ditch, D-1 and D-2, and the sedimentation pond after the reclaimed area is stabilized and the
vegetative cover has been established. Approval from the Division will be obtained prior to
commencing reclamation of these facilities.
