Bob Oswald
Re: Carnation Mine, Permit M-1977-416
Response to Apri12003 Comments
full of barren waste rock from the immediate vicinity. The filled portal entrance will be graded to a
slope not steeper that 2 : 1 horizontal to vertical.
Future Waste Disposal: Much of the waste disposed in the surface dumps originated from mine
development work to access orebodies. Itt modern times when individual orebodies are reached,
considerably less waste rock is generated. In the case of the Carnation Mine and the associated
mines in the area, most mine waste is deposited in mined-out areas underground, as this involves
less haulage and reduces additional surface disturbance.
Ore Loadout Structure: No plans presently exist to replace the ore loadout structure, which was
removed in November 2002 due its failing and unstable condition. If ore is brought out through the
Carnation portal in the future, it will be stockpiled on the surface in the area of the existing surface
structures or on ground which has already been disturbed, but not yet reclaimed, within the Permit
area.
Powerline Ownership: The Operator has provided maps showing ownership of power lines in the
local area of the Sunday group of mines. These maps are on file for the Sunday Mine, Permit M-
1978-285 and the West Sunday Mine, Permit M-1981-021. In addition, the 1" = 100' site map
submitted with the Technical Revision Request shows the ownership of power lines within the
immediate vicinity of the Carnation Mine.
"Old" Carnation Portal: This portal was closed in November 2002 by the Operator. This closure
is considered permanent, although the portal could re-excavated if needed for future use.
Corrective Actions
The remaining Corrective Action of marking permit boundary comers in the field was completed in
early November 2003, following the site inspection by the Division of Minerals and Geology.
Formal notice of resolution of this Corrective Action has been provided by the Operator under
separate cover.
Following approval of the Technical Revision, the Operator will finalize the site reclamation map.
Sincerely,
~v~
Terry V.
