UUW LULU Srr.livo•:
MINED LAND WILDLIFE STATEMENT/EVALUA'PZ021 (Revised)
for limited impact and select regular mine applications
The following information pertaining to wildlife is provided for
use by Mined Land Reclamation 9oard in their. consideration of a
mining permit for:
Courtner 1i2, NW~NE4 & EgNEw & N'~SEg, Sec.24, T21S, R64W, 6th P.Pf. for sand/gravel
W;ldlifa Species List: Cottontail rabbit, jackrabbit, coyote, raccoon, striped
skunk, rock squirrel and assorted other small mammals; kestral, red-tail hawk,
Swainson's hawk, scaled quail, mourning dove, horned lark, lark bunting and
numerous other small birds.
Endangered/Critical 8peoies/impacted: None known.
Critical habitats/Vegetative ComA~unitie5 Impacted: The area to be mined
is almost entirely alluvial bluffs vegetated with cholla and prickly pear cactus,
yucca, four-winged saltbush, low rabbitbrush, sand 'sage and shortgrass prairie
vegetation with blue gramma dominant.- There are small areas of riparian type
vegetation in the vicinity of the HRSSemer Ditch.
Assessment of impact:
Minimal.
.. Mine Reclamation Recommendations (include key spcoieaJhabitats Eor
xhich restoration is designed):
Backslopes at 3:l slope or less and recover with topsoil, reseeding per SCS
recommendations. The applicant is encouraged to provide supplemental watering
of reseeded areas during the first year of reseeding. It may be possible to
procure water from the Bessemer Ditch ~if applicant initiates negotiations for
such .water as soon as possible. A relatively simple sprinkler system (non-permanent)
operated for the first growing season for reclaimed areas would greatly reduce soil
erosion'potential. This is critical as the soils eroded would likely be displaced
into the Bessemer Ditch and surrounding ripa~~ri~~an~~type areas.
Prepared By: Johnny F. Tonko Ll.~~.,,,nn~7~,'z/ Ddte' 8/25/91
Submitted By: ~ Dater __ '~
This statement is void if not processed within 1 year.
This analysis does not constiY.ute approval cf application.
