Unless otherwise requested, the borehole will be sealed and the new roads and borehole
pads reclaimed in accordance with the procedures further described in the PAP or in
accordance with the applicable regulations.
Threatened and Endan e~red_Species Assessment, Cultural Resources Assessment
A block clearance cultural resources assessment is currently being conducted by Grand
River Institute. Upon completion of the report a copy will be forwarded to the Division.
A Block T&E species assessment is currently being conducted by Monarch and
Associates. A copy of the report will be forwarded to the Division upon receipt.
We understand that final Division approval of this project cannot take place until copies
of the final surveys are submitted for your review.
Bonding/ Reclamation Cost Estimate Considerations
Access Road -The anticipated additional road disturbance for access to the fifteen wells
will be approximately 23,654 feet in length by 10 - 14 feet (avg 12') wide or a total of
6.51 acres of additional disturbance.
The pads will be approximately 80 feet wide and 130 feet long or 0.24 acre each. Total
pad disturbance will be approximately 3.6 acres. Total borehole footage is estimated to
be 20,815'.
As in the past, we are requesting That the Division prepare a cost estimate to complete the
total of 10.1 I acres of reclamation activities.
Borehole Completion
Each borehole hole will be drilled 8'/a inch diameter to approximately 20 feet above the
coal. 7 inch steel casing will be installed to about 50 feet above the coal. Approximately
100 feet of slotted 5 inch liner pipe will be installed to the bottom of the borehole
extending up into the 7 inch casing approximately 50 feet.
Drainage and Sediment Control
The drainage and sediment control system for the Elk Creek mine gob vent boreholes will
be consistent with the previously constructed Sanborn Creek Mine gob vent boreholes.
The drainage and sediment control for the Elk Creek Mine borehole sites will be
managed as a small area exemption with alternative sediment control provided by a
combination of perimeter sediment control berms/ditches and installation of straw bales,
straw waddles or silt fence, etc. to reduce flow velocity and trap sediment. To facilitate
the control of upland drainage, if the site is suitable, an upland clean water diversion will
be constructed to reduce overland flow into the effected area.
