fl-,6
• diversity will increase within the project area. This increased
habitat diversity will probably result in higher deer populations after
reclamation is completed. A monitoring program will be implemented to
determine the effects and impacts the project has upon the mule deer
after some reclamation of the well field is completed. For example.
after the second year of well field development, sufficient reclaimed
acreage should be available to begin some limited monitoring of deer
population levels. At that time, and before infringement on severe
winter range occurs, regulatory agencies (BLM, CDOW, USFWS, and CMLRD)
will be contacted to discuss appropriate monitoring programs. It is
anticipated that the overall effort for these monitoring programs will
not be significant.
Raptors
Impacts on raptors could be mitigated in several ways.
• o Prior to removal, trees will be individually examined for
evidence of raptor nesting. This is especially important
during t;he spring nesting period.
o All powerlines could be constructed in accordance with
standards established in the USDA REA Bulletin 61-10. This
would help reduce raptor loss by electrocution.
o Rapid reclamation of disturbed areas could result in an
influx of rodents that will provide an increased food
source.
o Increased food source after reclamation and increased
habitat created within the well field is likely to increase
nesting and hunting areas.
•
THIS DOCUMENT CONTAINS TRADE SECRETS AND PRI VILEGE D, CONFIDENTIAL AND
PROPRIETARY COMMERCIAL, FINANCIAL, GEOLOGICAL AND GEOPHYSICAL DATA A '`I ~•
INFORMATION.
