one sample was collected from each of those areas even though they represent a very
• small percentage (IS aces or 4%) of the total reclaimed azea. The allocation of sample
sites for the 1996 sampling is provided in Appendix D.
1996 Revised Sampling
The 1996 data was revised for this report by sepazating the data for different units
so that the non-contiguous reclaimed aeeas (Topsoil Pile B, Topsoil Pile C, Sanitary
Landfill azea, Explosives Storage area) were evaluated individually. The data for the main
area of reclamation was then re-analyzed without the values from these small non-
contiguous sites.
1997 Samoline
In the 1997 study, sample sites were selected using a simple random sampling
scheme based on the entire reclaimed area as a whole. At the direction of CDMG staff,
• proportional allocation was not used to determine number of sample sites for the 1997
study m any of the sampling units. The 1997 sampling azea consisted of the main tract of
reclamation and non-contiguous reclaimed sites consisting of the Topsoil Pile B, Topsoil
Pile C, the Sanitary Landfill azea, and the Explosives Storage areas. Additional sample
sites were located in the non-contiguous areas if random sample points for a specific
vegetation parameter did not happen to fall within those areas. This additional data was
kept separate from the simple random sample site data and was only used for descriptive
and comparison purposes.
•
4
