This proposal requests written authorization from your office regarding
construction of weirs to monitor stream flow in the upper reaches of both Coal
and Jerry Creeks where the original crest stage gages were installed. The crest
stage gages were destroyed by a summer storm last year. Design of the crest
stage gages makes them particularly susceptible to destruction in large storm
events. Conversely the weir becomes part of the creek channel and is less
susceptible to destruction during large storm events.
Construction details of the weirs are shown on Exhibit 18 - 1. The use of
wood and masking with the landform and vegetation should help to preserve the
WSA values. Only hand tools will be used to install the weirs with pick-up trucks
bringing the material to the site.
Thank you for your consideration of this matter and please call if there are
questions or if I can be of assistance.
Sincerely,
i~~~~~
John M.
