Box 1430
Palisade, Colorado 81528
(970) 4647951
Fax (970) 4647181
`" RECEIVED
MAR 3 1 }9~9
DIV. OFMINERALS 8 GEOLOGY
Enclosed are responses to the questions about the revision of the
surface water monitoring plan.
The explanation page is not intended to be a part of the permit and
can be removed.
The method proposed to monitor flow has been changed to the
installation of Weirs as shown on Exhibit 18-1. The weirs will be made of
wood anchored with rebar rods. Rating charts can then be developed using
the formula for broad crested weirs. See "Applied Hydrology..." ,Barfield
,et all ,Figure 4.3 ,Page 229.
The requested changes to the narrative on Page 18.3 have been
made. A statement that reasonable efforts will be made to monitor the
channels when the creeks are flowing has been added. The infrequent
summer storms, typically late in the evening, and intermittent flows make
an absolute commitment highly problematic.
The entire text of Tab 18 is being replaced though only the surface
water section and a few grammatical errors have been changed.
Please call if there are questions or if I can be of assistance.
Sincerely,
~~~
John M. Walters
Mine Superintendent
