5.3.2 Embedment Material processed on site shall consist of crushed <br />rock, clean and open-graded (high percentage of voids when <br />compactedl, with a maximum size of 1.0 inches and a maximum of <br />5 percent passing the No. 200 sieve. Alternately, the material may <br />consist of sand and gravel screened to minus 1.5-inch and contain <br />the a maximum of 5 percent passing the No. 200 sieve. The <br />material shall generally be non-cohesive and non-plastic. <br />5.4 <br />5.3.3 Alternate embedment material specifications may be submitted to <br />the Engineer and may be substituted for the embedment material <br />specified above upon written approval of the substitution. <br />RIPRAP BEDDING <br />5.4.1 Riprap Bedding shall be obtained from the designated borrow areas <br />or from the Henderson Gravel Pit. <br />5.4.2 Riprap Bedding shall have a minimum size of No. 200 sieve, and <br />shall generally conform to the gradation limits listed in the following <br />table. Deviation from these gradation limits may be approved by <br />the Engineer when an on-site material is close to these limits and <br />otherwise proves to be suitable for bedding. <br />Sieve Size Percent Passing by Weight <br />3-inch 90-100 <br />3/4-inch 20- 90 <br />No. 4 0- 20 <br />No. 100 0- 10 <br />5,5 <br />5.4.3 An alternate Riprap Bedding material shall be '/cinch to 1.5-inch <br />gravel. <br />RIPRAP <br />Riprap shall be used to provide erosion protection at pipeline discharge <br />points, designated slopes, and in channels as shown on the Drawings. <br />5.5.1 Riprap shall 6e obtained by the Contractor from a source approved <br />by the Engineer or from the Henderson Gravel Pit. <br />5.5.2 Riprap shall consist of reasonably well-graded, hard and durable, <br />angular rock. Excessively flat, slabby, round, or overly elongated <br />pieces will not be acceptable. If material meeting these <br />requirements is not available in the Henderson Pit, then the most <br />suitable material that is available in the pit or within the Work area <br />shall be used. <br />SPEC.
