5.3.2 Embedment Material processed on site shall consist of crushed rock, clean and open-graded (high percentage of voids when compactedl, with a maximum size of 1.0 inches and a maximum of 5 percent passing the No. 200 sieve. Alternately, the material may consist of sand and gravel screened to minus 1.5-inch and contain the a maximum of 5 percent passing the No. 200 sieve. The material shall generally be non-cohesive and non-plastic. 5.4 5.3.3 Alternate embedment material specifications may be submitted to the Engineer and may be substituted for the embedment material specified above upon written approval of the substitution. RIPRAP BEDDING 5.4.1 Riprap Bedding shall be obtained from the designated borrow areas or from the Henderson Gravel Pit. 5.4.2 Riprap Bedding shall have a minimum size of No. 200 sieve, and shall generally conform to the gradation limits listed in the following table. Deviation from these gradation limits may be approved by the Engineer when an on-site material is close to these limits and otherwise proves to be suitable for bedding. RIPRAP Riprap shall be used to provide erosion protection at pipeline discharge points, designated slopes, and in channels as shown on the Drawings. 5.5.1 Riprap shall 6e obtained by the Contractor from a source approved by the Engineer or from the Henderson Gravel Pit. 5.5.2 Riprap shall consist of reasonably well-graded, hard and durable, angular rock. Excessively flat, slabby, round, or overly elongated pieces will not be acceptable. If material meeting these requirements is not available in the Henderson Pit, then the most suitable material that is available in the pit or within the Work area shall be used. SPEC.
