8.4 FORM TIES <br />Form ties should leave no metal or materials within 7.5 inches of the <br />concrete surface. Ties should provide cone shaped depressions at the <br />surface at least 1 inch in diameter and 1.5 inches deep to allow for filling <br />and patching. <br />8.5 INSPECTION <br />The Contractor shall give the Engineer a minimum of eight (81 working <br />hours notice prior to concrete placement to allow sufficient time for <br />inspection of foundation, form work, and reinforcement placement. All <br />rebar placement and formwork shall be completed a minimum of eight 181 <br />working hours prior to scheduled concrete placement. <br />9 CONSTRUCTION JOINTS <br />9.1 Provide construction, expansion, and control joints at locations indicated <br />on the Drawings. Where not indicated, locate construction joints so as not <br />to impair strength and appearance of the structure. These joints locations <br />shall be acceptable to the Engineer and meet requirements specified <br />hereafter. <br />9.2 Locate vertical wall construction control joints at a maximum of 30 feet <br />center to center or as shown on the Drawings. Locate horizontal wall <br />construction joints at 10-foot centers. Locate slab construction joints at a <br />maximum of 20 feet center-to-center, or as shown on the Drawings. Floor <br />transverse construction joints should generally align with wall joints. <br />9.3 Where specified on the Drawings, a formed keyway shall be provided in <br />accordance with the details shown on the Drawings. <br />9.4 Obtain a bond between successive concrete pours at construction joints by <br />thoroughly cleaning and removing all loose and foreign particles and <br />laitance from construction joints. Before new concrete is placed, all <br />construction joints shall be coated with an approved proprietary bonding <br />adhesive, which is used and applied in accordance with the manufacturer's <br />recommendations. <br />9.5 When wall heights exceed 8 ft., new concrete should be placed on a layer <br />of cement mortar evenly spread over the previously placed concrete. <br />9.6 The end surfaces of adjacent construction/control joints shall be painted <br />with an acceptable seating compound to prevent bonding between <br />sections. <br />9.7 Reinforcement shall he continuous across all construction and construc- <br />tion/control joints. <br />SPEC B -CONCRETE <br />PAGE 13 <br />
