7.7.2 CONCRETE PROTECTION FOR REINFORCEMENT <br />Provide minimum concrete protective covering for reinforcement as <br />follows: <br />7.7.2.1 Concrete deposited against earth: three inches (3"). <br />7.7.2.2 Formed surfaces exposed to weather or in contact <br />with earth: two inches (2") for all reinforcing bars. <br />7.7.2.3 Projected reinforcing bars intended for bonding with <br />future extensions shall be protected from corrosion <br />by concrete or other adequate covering. <br />7.8 SPLICES <br />7.8.1 Splices shall be made as shown on the Drawings. <br />7.8.2 Lap splice lengths for rebar shall be top bar tension splices as <br />indicated in Chapter 12 of AC1 318 with no reduction in splice <br />length taken as indicated in paragraph 12.2.4 of ACI 318. <br />7.9 CONSTRUCTION JOINTS <br />Longitudinal reinforcement shall be continuous across all construction and <br />control joints. <br />8 FORM WORK <br />8.1 GENERAL <br />Construction of formwork shall comply with ACI 347 and SP-4 so that <br />concrete members and structures are of correct size, shape, alignment, <br />elevation, and position. Contractor is responsible for design, erection, and <br />performance of formwork. <br />8.2 CHAMFER <br />Place three-quarter-inch (314") chamfer strips in corners and on edges of <br />forms to produce three-quarter-inch (3/4") wide beveled edges on perma- <br />nently exposed corners and edges of concrete members. Do not place a <br />chamfer on top edges of walls that are to serve as the foundation for <br />building structures. <br />8.3 MAINTENANCE <br />Clean and adjust forms prior to concrete placement. Tighten forms to <br />prevent-mortar leakage. Coat form surfaces with effective bond-breaking <br />form release agents in accordance with Section 4.4 of ACI 347 prior to <br />placing reinforcing bars in forms. Form release agents shall not stain <br />concrete or prevent bonding of future finishes to the concrete surfaces. <br />SPEC 6 -CONCRETE <br />PAGE 12 <br />
