10.2.8 BULK FILL <br />10.2.8.1 Bulk fill shall be placed in lifts to a minimum of 85 <br />percent of the maximum Standard Proctor density <br />as determined in accordance with ASTM D698. <br />The loose lift thickness shall generally not exceed <br />12 inches. <br />10.2.9 ROADBASE <br />10.2.9.1 Road base material shall be placed to a thickness <br />sufficient to result in a 6 inch thick compacted layer. <br />Road base material shall be compacted to a <br />minimum of 95 percent of the maximum Standard <br />Proctor density as determined in accordance with <br />ASTM D698 within 2 percent of the optimum mois- <br />ture content using a smooth drum vibratory soil <br />compactor. <br />10.2.10 ROADWAY SURFACING <br />10.2.10.1 Roadway Surfacing shall generally be placed to a <br />thickness determined in the field to provide <br />sufficient stabilization of roadway surfaces and <br />compacted as required. <br />10.2.11 BLENDED CLAY BARRIER/BACKFILL CONSTRUCTION <br />10.2.11.1 After preparation of the foundation is completed, a <br />zone of bentonite blended with select fill shall be <br />installed at the locations shown on the Drawings in <br />the following "Mixed Membrane Method" as pro- <br />posed by Wyo-Ben, Inc., or other procedure ap- <br />proved by the Engineer. <br />10.2.11.1.1 A layer of loose soil shall be placed into the <br />bottom and(or sides of the trench or ditch to <br />a depth of no greater than 6 inches. Mois- <br />ture should be sprinkled onto the soil until it <br />is near the optimum moisture content.
