10.2.5.4 After placement and alignment of the pipeline upon <br />the bedding layer, an additional layer or layers of <br />"haunching" shall be installed up to centerline of the <br />pipe, composed of embedment material. <br />10.2.5.5 Upon final check of the pipe invert elevation, a layer <br />or layers of "initial backfill" material shall be placed <br />to a level 6 inches above the crown of the pipe, <br />composed of embedment material for HDPE pipe; or <br />of select fill for reinforced concrete pipe. When <br />select fill is used for "initial backfill," extreme care <br />must be used to ensure that no rocks greater than 2 <br />inches of size, and no sharp rocks rest against the <br />pipe. <br />10.2.6 PIPELINE BACKFILL <br />10.2.6.1 Refer to Common Fill section for pipeline backfill <br />that is not beneath a roadway. <br />10.2.6.2 Refer to Select Fill section for pipeline backfill that is <br />beneath a roadway. The select fill specification <br />shall apply to all backfill materials in these areas. <br />10.2.7 GEOTEXTILE FABRIC <br />10.2.7.1 Geotextile filter fabric shall be installed beneath all <br />areas that are to be covered by riprap between the <br />riprap and the fill material, where the Contractor has <br />chosen not to use riprap bedding material. <br />10.2.7.2 Geotextile fabric shall be installed strictly in accor- <br />dance with the manufactures published directions. <br />10.2.7.3 Joints in the geotextile fabric shall be made by <br />lapping the material no less than 18 inches or man- <br />ufacturer's recommended lap, whichever is greater. <br />10.2.7.4 Care shall be taken to minimize wrinkles in or bridg- <br />ing of the fabric. <br />SPEC.
