5.8 BULK FILL <br />5.8.1 Bulk fill may contain any type of earth materials, except that topsoil <br />and rocks suitable for riprap shall be separated where practical for <br />use in other areas. <br />5.9 ROADBASE <br />5.9.1 Road base material shall consist of pit run sand and gravel generally <br />meeting the requirements for the Colorado Department of <br />Highways Class 6 Aggregate Base Course. The road base material <br />may be processed by the contractor at the Henderson Gravel Pit, or <br />imported by the Contractor from an off-site source. <br />5.10 GRAVEL DRAIN MATERIAL <br />5.10.1 Gravel Drain Material shall consist of washed 3/8-inch to '/:inch <br />aggregate. The drain material maybe processed by the contractor <br />at the Henderson Gravel Pit, or imported by the Contractor from an <br />off-site source. <br />5.11 BENTONITE <br />5.11.1 Bentonite supplied for blending as a soil sealant shall be high- <br />swelling sodium montmorillinite claY• The bentonite shall be <br />Envirogel 200 as manufactured by Wyo-Ben, Inc., Billings, <br />Montana, or an equivalent grade. <br />5.11.2 High swelling bentonite is defined as the ability of 2 grams of the <br />base bentonite, when mechanically reduced to a minus 100 mesh, <br />to swell in water to an apparent volume of 16 cc's, or more when <br />added to 100 cc's. of distilled water contained in a graduated <br />cylinder. <br />5.11.3 The Colloid content of the bentonite shall exceed 70 percent as <br />measured by evaporating and weighing the suspended portion from <br />a two percent distilled water solution after 24 hours of sedimenta- <br />tion. <br />5.10 ROADWAY SURFACING MATERIAL <br />5.10.1 Roadway surfacing material shall generally consist of gravel and <br />Coble material processed on site with a maximum size of 3-inch <br />with a minimal amount of fines. <br />SPEC.
