This mining wi].1 be conducted under the rules and
regulations under a 112 Regular Mininy Permit with the MLRB.
The proposed mining area lies on the banks of the Two uttes
Creek on Sections 13, 2;, 24, and 27. Flow in the Two Buttes
Creek is restricted to runoffs from snowmelt and local zed
convective events. The site will not require an NPDES permit,
as mining will be a dry operation. The area to be min d will
be points where gravel bars were deposited by flooding from
Two Buttes Creek in 1965.
The proposed operation is a small sand and gravel open tion
and will not remove significant amount of rangeland fr m
production or interfere with grazing on other adjacent areas.
Mining will take place only during the dry season. Th re is
no topsoil to be removed at the Shaw pit. The mining rocess
at this pit will take approximately 3 - 6 years. The eason
for the delay is the small amount of mining activity t at
may occur except in years when substantial road repair is re-
quired and a large amount of material is needed to maintian
the roads. This may only occur one year in five. An area of
9.9 acres of previously mined area lies within the pro sed
mining area.
The mining will be achieved by using front-end loader a d
loading directly into dump trucks and trucked off site.
The gravel deposits are approximately 10 feet deep. Gr und-
water occurs at a depth of 12 feet and will not be affe ted.
Mininy will proceed in a North to South direction.
Some screening of the gravel may be required.
Prowers County agrees to a 200 foot setback from all m~ning
boundaries.
