The permitted acreages are taken from the permit application
form dated 03/09/90. The mineral ownership is all private. The 2,330
acres represents the mineral ownership within the permit area. Since the
mine is in permanent cessation, mineral ownership is not important. The
private surface ownership includes acreage at the Coal Ridge No. 1 Mine
and the Lacy Loadout. The disturbed acreage is estimated to be 46 acres
at the mine Bite. The backfilled and regraded area is the disturbed area
minus the area of the sediment pond and the topsoil pile located east of
the mine entrance gate (46 - 2 = 44). The number of acres retopsoiled
and reseeded ie the disturbed acreage less the acreage of the roads left
in place (44 - 2.5 = 41.5). No acreage was disturbed at the Loadout.
The affected area includes the disturbed area plus approximately ~ acre
affected by the rock tunnels.
The annual reclamation reports have indicated that 23 acres were
reclaimed. This figure represents the estimated area where backfilling
and grading was performed and topsoil was replaced. It does not
represent areas where topsoil piles were located, the access roads which
will be left in place or the bench outslopes which were not disturbed
after initial construction. The annual reclamation reports should
probably indicate that 44 acres have been reclaimed and will be revised
in the future if you concur.
Please call if you have any questions.
Sinc rely,
J~tov~.
Consulting Engineer
