r „ -
U
B. Upon reclamation, the Miffer Pit will reportedly be unlined at the
request of the lessor. Will clceure of the pit in this fashion adversely impact community
water wells?
C. The DMG has advised that due to limited staffing, site inspections of
mining activities in the Lyons area may tie limited to once every 4 years. Clearly this is
inadequate to maintain sufficient supervision of permit compliance.
D. If your office establishes that Lafarge-Westem Mobile has extracted
and sold aggragate resources outside of the permitted boundaries, should the profits
and royalty from said resources be recovered and returned to the State/County as
Cash and/or as other areas of river corridor set aside for preservation?
Lafarge-Western Mobile reports that they have undertaken a professional survey of
their activities along the St. Vrain River. This survey may prove useful in the
investigation of this matter.
II. Given the unique and fragile nature of the St. Vrain River fluvial corridor, its biotic
community and its scenic value, the Watchdogs respectfully request that highest
priority be placed on preservation of the corridor's natural condition and diversity.
It is our position that a 100 foot wide corridor (as proposed in the Western Mobile
application) is insufficient to provide, to protect and buffer, and to maintain in natural
balance the features and diversity within the river corridor.
We respectfully request that consideration be given to widening the corridor t0 300 feet
on both sides of the river.
The Watchdogs respectfully request a review of each of the aforementioned issues
and respectfully request a written response from vour office.
Thank you!
Sincerely,
Richard Cargill
for/St. Vrain Valley Community Watchdogs' Steering Committee
cc: Mr. Carl B. Mount
Senior Environmental Protection Specialist
Division of Minerals and Geology
Department of Natural Resources
1313 Sherman Street, Room 215
Denver, CO 80203
