J. Dudash
Division of Minerals & Geology
1313 Sherman St., Room 215
Denver, CO 80203
RECEIVED
AUG 2 9 2003
Division of Minerals and ~eolagy
Re: Bowie Resources Limited
Technical Revision - TR-026
Clarification Agent and Flocculent for Mine Water
Permit C-96-083
Dear Mr. Dudash:
CIVIL ENGINEERING
CONST. MANAGEMENT
The DMG's letters dated June 19, 2003 and July 1, 2003 transmitted its adequacy
comments for the referenced technical revision. Following are BRL's responses to the
DMG's comments and concerns:
Page 2.05-73i was amended to state that metering pumps will be utilized to
ensure proper dosage, 100 ppm and 2 ppm for the clarification agent and
flocculent respectively.
2. The DMG points out that if the ditch and canal are dry, no dilution of the
clarification aide will take place. There is no agricultural or domestic use of the
Deer Trail Ditch water downstream of the point where the mine water enters the
Ditch. The only potential use of the Deer Trail Ditch water is by the Terror Creek
Company for dust control which should not be a problem. The minor amount of
mine water discharged into the canal when it is dry would barely create a
perceptible flow. Considering the U. S. Fish and Wildlife Service's biological
opinion summarized below, this minor amount of water should not be a concern.
3. If and when mine water is discharged into D-Gulch, the mine water will flow first
into ditch D-H1. D-Gulch does not flow into ditch D-H2.
4. A discussion of the effects on the ground water by discharging mine water into D
Gulch was added to amended page 2.05-74.
5. The U. S. Fish and Wildlife Service's biological opinion concludes that the
clarification agent and flocculent have no toxicity issues with regard to wildlife.
BRL will monitor its settling ponds and contact the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service
or the Colorado Division of Wildlife if a problem is detected regarding wildlife.
