The property is
comprised of approximately 53 acres and is depicted on the USGS 7.5-minute quadrangle
"Brighton". Specifically, the property is located in the W'/zSE'/a of Section 34 in T1S,
R67W of the 6`s prime meridian in Adams County, Colorado. The latitude of the project
site is 39°55'01" north and the longitude is 104°52'19" west. The UTM coordinates of
the center of the site are 4418290m N and 510920m E. The elevation of the center of the
site is approximately 5013 feet above mean sea level. The site is accessed by taking U.S.
Highway 85 north from Denver to 120a' Street. Take 120's Street west 0.7 miles to Old
Brighton Road. Tum north onto Old Brighton Road and the entrance to the property is
the second drive on the west side of Old Brighton Road. Currently, mineral extraction is
being conducted within the south half of the property.
A man-induced waterway was created on the site from dewatering an active mineral
extraction area. Water has been pumped from the active pit area since June 2001. The
water is pumped out of the mineral extraction azea into a Swale that terminates at the
South Plate River north of the mining permit azea at 123`a Street. It was noted that the
Swale was dry and showed no signs of surface water flow or active channel
characteristics in the recent past during a preliminary site investigation conducted by
Michael Savage on November 29, 1999. Figure 1 shows an aerial photo of the site prior
to mining and Figure 2 shows the Swale prior to mining. Photos taken during our recent
site investigation of October 16, 2001 show that water is present within the Swale and
wetland vegetation is beginning to establish itself within and along the sides of the
waterway (Figures 3-5).
