ASPHAL7
SPECIALTIES CO.
Exhibit G -Water Information
This section describes the existing water features in and nearby the proposed amendment
area and potential impacts on water resources due to mining. Local surface water
features in the vicinity of the project aze shown on both the Index Map and the Mine Plan
Map. A Gravel Well Pennit and Temporary Substitute Supply Plan have been approved
by the Colorado State Engineer and aze in force for the current permit. These items will
be amended to include the additional mining area. Increased water requirements based
on the expansion of the amendment area, in the form of increased "make-up" water by
greater exposure of ground water and water lost through product, are discussed in Exhibit
D, the Mining Plan. All of the area to be amended onto the Speer Mining Resource
Conditional Use is located within the 100-year floodplain of the South Platte River and a
currently approved and in force Adams County Floodplain Permit will be amended to
take into account the additional azea. UD&FCD requirements for the amendment area
will be incorporated into the revised Floodplain Permit.
Mining will continue to be by the "dry mining" method as is currently being practiced,
pumping alluvial groundwater from within the azeas to be mined. Mining will expose
approximately 6.0 surface acres the first year and 5.5 surface acres the second year in the
amendment area.
Surface Water
The nearest major watercourse is the South Platte River, which flows along the western
edge of the amendment area. Final dischazge from dewatering trenches of the
amendment area will be to the South Platte River. Prior to any discharge activity from
the amended area to the South Platte River, ASCI will amend the current CPDS Permit.
Groundwater
Wells neazby to the amendment area are a mix of both alluvial and bedrock wells. The
location of these wells is shown on Exhibit C-3, the Adjoining Property Owners Map.
None of these wells are the primary source of domestic drinking water, as South Adams
Water and Sanitation District supplies taps to this area. ASCI has notified all adjacent
neighbors to the amendment azea of our proposed addition of the property into our
mining plan as part of our company "communications program" and so they are aware
that if significant drawdown occurs to their alluvial well, that they are to contact ASCI.
We are awaze of possibly only one active alluvial well neaz to the amendment azea.
ASCI has installed two groundwater observation wells on the amendment area, at the
locations shown on Exhibit C-1, the Pre-Mine Plan Map, to compliment the three
monitoring wells currently in use on the existing permit azea. ASCI has been monitoring
the two wells installed on the amendment area on a monthly basis since January 2002 to
obtain baseline data. ASCI will continue to monitor all active monitoring wells, both on
Speer Mining Resource 19 October 7,2002
Asphalt Specialties Company, Inc. DMG Permit Amendment No. 2
