• III IIIlilllllllllll •
999
October 1, 1996
Empire Electric Association, Inc.
801 N. Broadway
Southwest Land Services
PO Box 2673
Durango, CO 81302
ATTENTION: Bobbie Williams
Durango Fleltl OtflCg
OMlsbn of Mlnorata G C3u019gy .
On Tuesday, September 24, 1996, our 5eld representative investigated the condition of our
powerline in the SW %., Sec.22, T.36N.,R.13W., which is near a gravel pit being mined by
Montezuma County. This location is about a mile northeast of Mancos and just west of County
Road 42.
Our representative reported that the poles appear to be sound and set to proper depth, and
the gravel operation nearby should not affect them. Clearances above ground aze in accordance
with the National Electrical Safety Code in the early 1940's when the line was built. The lines are
somewhat low by today's standazds and could pose a hazard for large mining equipment and trucks
passing under them. It appears that the mining operation will be in Section 21 to the west of these
power lines, and there should be no problem if the trucks stay on the existing haul road. We are
enclosing a copy of the Colorado Law regarding work near high voltage power lines entitled,
"Before You Get In Over Your Head... ". We are sending a copy of this letter to Montezuma
County together with a copy of the pamphlet. If others besides Montezuma County will be
involved with the gravel mining, please make sure they aze aware of this law. If a potential
problem develops, Montezuma County should contact Empire Electric to see about raising the
lines.
Sincerely,
EMPIRE ELECTRIC ASSOCIATION, INC.
Chuck Rodstrom
Assistant Engineering Manager
CR/dp
ce: Montezuma County Road Departrnent
ATTN: Lloyd Everett
1680 Highway 145
Cortez, CO 81321
P.
