Potts series
Two existing pits in the vicinity of the Refuse Areas represent the Potts series. Pit 7, the typical
location, is located approximately 300 feet south of Refuse Area 9, next of Pond 2/3. The second
pit, Pit 8, is located on the eastern edge of Refuse Area SA.
Recommendations
Satanka series
Additional samples should be collect from [Ite vicinity of Refuse Area 7 and Refuse Areas 10 and
I I. If the samples appear reasonably similar they will be composited by horizon and sent in for a
single se[ of analysis. If their similarity is in question, then ntul[iple samples will be sent in for
analysis. The depth at which rock stops penetration in the core holes will determine suitability
limitations due to rock.
Turley Variant series
Sufficient data Itas been collected from this soil series to characterize its reclamation suitability.
Potts series
This series is represented by ntap unit 108 as a complex with Turley Variant and ntap unit 107.
Samples should be collected from Refuse Areas 8/9 and Refuse Areas 10/I 1. If the samples
appear reasonably similar they will be composited by horizon and sent in for a single set of
analysis. If [heir similarity is in question, then multiple samples will be sent in for analysis.
Samples will be collected with afour-foot hand coring tube (1.25"). Individual samples will be
based on identifiable horizon and will not exceed one foot of total depth. Samples collected a[
multiple locations within ttte same soil series may be composited by horizon provided they are
similar. Analytical parameters will include:
pH EC
texture SAR
%OM fertility (N, P, K)
selenium boron
Based on Table 1I.1-2 (page 11.1-18) in the pen»it application the limiting factor for these soil series
should be bedrock at various depths.
if you have any comments on this proposed sampling plan please give me a call at 970-675-4322.
Sincerely,
~~
Scott Wansted[
Environmental Engineer
cc: Jeff Dubbert
Murari Shres[ha
