i at this time Vere' s no plans to put thooin and if they do,
they seek approval of the Board. The reclamation plan is
basically to return the land to the range land. Where the
existing soil or the plant growth medium is inadequate, as.--•--
completion of the mining the mining of the particular areas,
the soils would be hauled in to produce a depth of at least 4
inches. Irrigation would not be used, primarily because of
the extremely poor soil--pour water on it with the gravel
deposit there, it just soaks down into the ground very rapidly.
Broadcast fertilization would be used to improve the nutrient
levels in the plant growth medium. Range character would fit
other areas in the surrounding lands which basically is pas-
ture grasses, sagebrush also there' s, when you get down below
the ditch here you notice there' s groves of trees and shrubs
but that' s at the lower elevation. Probably deriving a lot
of water from seepage from the ditch that would be running
down from the river as well as groundwater from the river.
This is up on terrace. The final slopes would be a 2 to 1
along here, so there would be a 2 to 1 slope coming up to
the railroad right of way. The reclamation would occur in
close correspondence to the mining, often beginning within
the phase that they are presently mining in. They would seed
the area with crested wheatgrass, pubsecent wheatgrass,
Indian ricegrass, western wheatgrass and streambank wheat-
grass. In view of the droughty condition of the site--not
much water being held in a fairly thin soil--I think that the
seed mixture, particularly with a streambank wheatgrass,
Indian ricegrass in there sod-former and a bunchgrass together
that they 're both quite drought resistant. They ' ll have a
-3-
