the northern boundary between the operation the Braun residence. The second berm will be
located on the flat area on the top of the hill towazds the southeast end of the expansion area near
where the road which defines the eastern boundary of the expansion terminates. These two azeas
have been outlined as special areas of concern because of the proximity of houses in these two
areas. Both berms will be built to a height of ten feet with 3H:1 V slopes. The berms will be
immediately seeded with a temporary seed mix since they will be present for more than one yeaz.
These berms aze shown on Map C-2. The Braun berm will store 3400 cy and the southeast berm
will store 700 cy. The remainder of the topsoil will be placed on fully regraded flat areas or
slopes in the existing pit.
Exnansion Mining Details
Mining will progress in slices as shown on Map C-3, which shows the cross sections of the
mining plan. The entire hillside along the western edge of the expansion will initially be stripped
of topsoil and overburden. The dozer will then begin pushing from the crest of the hill towazds
the pit. No blasting is needed to move the in place material. Material will be pushed down the
initial steep slope until a uniform 3H:1 V slope is established. This slope will be the final
reclamation slope angle. The 3H:1 V slope will continue to be pushed back towards the ultimate
mining limits until they aze reached. The first portion of the final reclamation surface to be
exposed is the center of the mining area. This and all final slopes will be established as soon as
possible to provide timely reclamation. The northern half of the mining area will then be
completed. At this point, the primary direction of mining will be towazds the south. Again, as
the final reclamation surface is exposed, it will be prepazed for reclamation.
Subsequent stripping operations will be very limited in duration. Prior to the removal of a slice
of gravel, the topsoil and overburden will be removed from the top edge of the slope. Access for
stripping operations will be from the 3H:1 V mining slope or the existing access road which
borders the mining extents. The stripped material will either be immediately used for
reclamation elsewhere in the pit or be stockpiled. All stockpiles that are semi-permanent (I year
or more) will be seeded within 2 months of construction to prevent erosion.
Access to mining will be primarily on the active 3H:1 V slope and limited to heavy equipment
such as dozers only. Secondary access will be maintained to the top of the existing pit and the
l~agneur Pit June 07 D-4
