5.3.1.5 Mayflower Waste Water Treatment Plant (MFWWTP) (continued)
• Reporting: Spills of HzSOa greater than 1000 pounds (65 gallons) aze subject to the reporting
requirements outlined in Sections 4.2, 4.3, and 4.4 and any spill (regazdless of quantity) which
threatens waters of the State of Colorado must be reported as outlined in Sections 4.2, 4.3, and
4.4. All spills of sulfuric acid should be reported to the Environmental Department immediately
by using the "Spill and Release Information Sheet" (Appendix 1).
Conformance with Applicable Requirements: The overall housekeeping effort was observed
to be good at the MFWWTP building during site inspections of April 10 and June 20, 2003. The
acid tank appeazs to be in good condition. Although the containment wall itself could not hold
the entire contents of the tank, when the building sump and floor aze factored in the calculation
of secondary containment, adequate volume exists to contain the worst-case spill. Applicable
state guidelines are assumed to be the same as the Federal Regulations at 40 CFR Part 112, and
therefore, under §112.7(j) the MFWTTP is currently in conformance with applicable regulatory
requirements.
•
52
