. 5.2.4.2 Open Pit Warehouse
Description: The Open Pit Warehouse provides storage space for a variety of materials, some
of which could spill within the building during loading or unloading activities. For that reason
the following materials aze listed in this SPCC/MCP.
•
• Two drums of Perco1728 mixed with water resting on wooden pallets
• One 55 gallon drum of turbine oil resting on a spill pallet
• Two 5 gallon pails of Anti-Rust
• Various fire supression chemicals in a variety of storage containers.
Location: The Open Pit Warehouse is adjacent to the Open Pit Shop, approximately 3200 R
northeast of the Main Gate.
Spill Potential: Very low
Prevention and Control: Most likely if a product spill occurred it would be a fraction of a
container, probably on the order of a few pounds or a few gallons.
Prevention and Control: Care in loading and unloading containers, making sure the lift buck
does not puncture a container, is the best spill control. General housekeeping is a priority in the
Open Pit Warehouse.
Countermeasures: Because some of the products described aze granulaz or highly viscous, they
aze not likely to migrate substantially from the place where spilled. Simply shoveling the
material back into the storage container is the best countermeasure. In the unlikely event that a
container would fall off a transport truck in a rainstorm and become wet enough to flow, the spill
could be contained with diking or a sorbent boom. Reclaimed spilled materials should be
temporarily stored onsite until the Climax Environmental Department arranges for disposal.
Nearest Clean-up Equipment: Spill kits aze located in the Moly Wazehouse and Open Pit Truck
Shop. Shovels and empty containers aze located in the Warehouse.
Visual Inspections and Integrity Testing: The Open Pit Warehouse product storage areas are
checked daily during operation of the mine and at ]east weekly during standby periods
Reporting: In the event of an overflow from the Open Pit Warehouse that escapes containment
inside the building, a "Spill and Release Information Sheet" (Appendix 1) should be filled out
immediately and given to the Environmental Department. If, for any reason, waters of the State
of Colorado are threatened by a spill, the procedures outlined in Sections 4.2, 4.3, and 4.4 of this
SPCC/MCP Plan should be followed.
Conformance with Applicable Requirements: At the time of this writing (May 2004) the Open
• Pit Wazehouse is in conformance with applicable regulatory requirements.
46
