• 5.2.1.12 Parker Ag's Oil Storage Facilities in the Open Pit Shop
Description: Parker Ag's oil storage consists of two 55 gallon drums of Rykon grease and SAE
15W40 motor oil stored on a containment pallet. Parker Ag also has a 265 gallon cylindrical
steel diesel tank that rests inside a steel trough measuring 359 gallons. The steel trough serves as
secondary containment for the diesel tank. Neazby aze two 55 gallon drums--one with ethanol
and the other with Tannergas liquid antifreeze-resting on spill pallets.
I •
Location: Located on the west end of the Open Pit Shop (indoors).
Spill Potential: Moderate
Potential Volume Spilled: If any of the drums leak, it would most likely be a small amount (<55
gallons) and it would report to the Open Pit Shop floor and eventually the sump system.
Prevention and Control: See the above secondary containment discussion under the
"Description" heading. Prevention and control of spills depends on operator care during
refueling and transfer operations and general awareness that a potential exists for careless spills
and accidents handling oil products.
Countermeasures: If a spill of oil occurs, sorbent booms may be used to dike and contain the
spilt. Soiled booms and contaminated soil should be scooped up with a shovel and placed in a
container for transport to and disposal in the Climax landfill with the approval of the
Environmental Department.
Nearest Clean-up Equipment: Spill kits aze located in the Open Pit Shop.
Visual Inspections and Integrity Testing: During operations the Pazker Ag oil storage azeas aze
visually checked on a weekly basis, and they are inspected monthly. During standby status of the
mine Parker Ag's oil storage azeas aze checked monthly.
Reporting: In the event that waters of the State of Colorado are threatened by a spill from the
Pazker Ag oil storage facility, the notification procedure outlined in Sections 4.2, 4.3, and 4.4
will apply. Any spill from the Parker Ag oil storage facility should be documented on the "Spill
Incident Report" form immediately (Appendix 1), and given to the Environmental Department.
Conformance with Applicable Requirements: At the time of this writing (May 2004) the
Parker Ag facilities in the Open Pit Shop aze in conformance with applicable regulatory
requirements.
38
