Gabions and Rer~® mattresses instalion procedures <br />Assembly <br />Gabions antl mattresses are shipped folded antl packed <br />together in bundles, in order to occupy less space and make <br />transportation to sites ewnomical and vary (fig. 50). <br />On site, they are unfolded and assembled es follows: corners <br />are joined together antl diaphragms are attached to fhe side <br />panels by means of lacing wire or high tensile ring fasteners <br />(fig. SQ). <br />Empty units are subsequently joined together along adjacent <br />edges. both horizontally and vertically (fig. 52-54). <br />so r... <br />Filling <br />This is usually carried out by mechanical means (fig. 51-53) <br />using rounded river shingle or quarry stbne having a size <br />slightly larger than that of the mesh, so as to have minimum <br />percentage of voids (48" for gabions; 3.5' for 9" Reno <br />manresses; 3-4" Tor 6" Reno mattresses).
