Specifications E.4 SYNTHETIC LINER This Specification Section describes the work related to placement, seaming, testing, and protection of the synthetic liner for the diversion channels. E.4.1 Materials Description The synthetic liner shall consist of smooth high-density polyethylene (IIDPE) geomembrane. The nominal geomembrane thickness shall be either 40; 60, or 80 mil. The geopiembranc shall be manufactured with products designed and manufactured for the purpose of liquid containment. The geomembrnne shall conform to the following minimum physical requirements listed below. 40 mil to mil 80 mil Tensile strength at break (2501bs / in width) 160 220 250 Elongation at break (700 percent) 700 700 700 Labels on the geomembrane roll or panel shall identify the thickness, length, width, and manufacturer's mazk number. Transport and storage of the geomembrane material shall be according to manufacturer's recommendations. Geomembranc rolls stored on site shall be kept off of the ground surface and covered. Prior to liner deployment, the outer liner surface of each roll shall be inspected for punctures, scratches or other damage. If the outer linter surface of the roll is damaged, the outer two wraps of the roll shall be removed and discazded prior to liner deployment. The geomembrane shall be manufactured to be free of holes, blisters, undispersed raw materials, Gels, or visible evidence of contamination by foreign matter. Any such defect shall render that roll or panel of material unacceptable for use and shall be replaced with material that is free of any such defects. Defects may be repaired in lieu of material replacement only apon approval by the Field Engineer. E.4.2 Work Description Installation of the synthetic liner shall be only on azeas shown on the Drawings or approved by the Field Engineer. E.4.2.1 Liner Deployment Tndividual panels of synthetic liner shall be laid out and overlapped a minimum of 6 inches prior to welding, or as recommended otherwise by the manufacturer. Where possibly, the overlapping panels shall be shingled, such that the up-slope panel is on top of the down-slape panel. (ht the side slopes of the holding pond, panels shall be placed with the long dimensiotl perpendiculaz to the slope contours. The liner ganef and roll number shall be marked on the pane] and recorded as the material is being deployed.
