4.6.2 Wildlife
~~.
No listed species of plants or animals or their habitat have been identified within the
greater area of the Cresson Project as indicated in the 2000 report or the proposed area of
the ECME as again confirmed in the 2004 report.
4.6.3 Soils
The Greystone report confirmed that soils within the ECME azea aze generally as mapped
and reported in the Amendment No. 8 report.
4.6.4 Ve elation
Vegetation within the ECME azea is generally as mapped in the Amendment No. 8
report. A review of the Colorado Natural Heritage Program ("CNHP") database for the
Amendment No. 8 work in 2000 indicated [he presence of grassy-slope sedge "Carex
oreocharis" within and outside portions of the permit azea. During Amendment No. 8,
CC&V contracted with Greystone to conduct regional studies and to provide that
information to the CNHP database to further document the presence and habitat for the
species. Although a small portion of a grassy-slope sedge population is expected to be
disturbed by the ECME, this is not expected to threaten or imperil the population as a
whole given the abundance of which grassy-slope sedge is found in the general azea. As
• a special status species, grassy-slope sedge merits this higher level of attention to help
assure the continuing viability of the species but no protection measures are warranted.
Grassy-slope sedge is not a protected or regulated species under either state or federal
law.
The updated report is included in this document as Appendix 2 to TR 43.
4.6.5 Climate
There is no change to the general climate information as discussed in Amendment No. 8.
5.0 MINING AND OPERATIONS MANAGEMENT PLAN -ECME
5.1 Introduction
This section describes the Mining and Operations Management Plan for the proposed
ECME and the environmental protection measures that accompany the proposed
development of ECME. Environmental protection measures are incorporated with the
descriptions of each activity or component. Water management and sediment controls aze
further addressed in Section 9.0 of TR 43.
5.2 Overview of Technical Revision for ECME
• As previously discussed, TR 43 proposes an extension of the existing East Cresson Mine
based upon the exploration discoveries of additional ore. The changes to the mining plan
9
