III. Comments - Compliance
Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of
observations made during tfie inspection. Comments also describe any
enforcement actions taken during the inspection and the facts or evidence
supporting the enforcement action.
Fish and Wildlife observations included Elk, Red Tailed Hawk, Goshawk,
Killdeer, and numerous song birds. Mining activities did not appear to
interfere with fish and wildlife habitat.
Reve~etation of mining areas, pond embankments, and topsoil stockpiles
was ample to control erosion. Quantitative samples and measurements
were not taken.
Air Resource Protection - Waste oil is used for dust suppression at
coal loading facilities, and roads are watered as necessary. No
apparent air emissions problems were observed.
Slides and Damage - The South of Shop slide area appeared stable.
Reclaimed lands in the West Ridge and Moffat pit areas also appeared
stable. Slumps were apparent on two of the Goat Trail embankments, one
at the A transfer switchback, the other at the fourth switchback up
from the tipple area. The operator should repair these areas and
inspect the road regularly for future stability problems.
Edna Strip Mine 5 3/30/93 - 4/2/93
