~..
TRIP ftEFOH'f
Cates Decemrer 10, 1926
PLsce(s) Visited Blue Pibbon Coal [•tire in Peonia, Colcrado
Discussion:
and extendirq accroximatel}' 80 feet zlorg the diversion. I could not locate ary
other areas of pondirq, however, the sr.G•„ co•~er ha,•r~pered my search. The
underdrains located in tY:e tn_rch outslc_;e were drained at the tine of our
inscection.
'^.e borrow area lccatc-d directly south of the hig:~o:all znd usEd to supply materi~
for bac'<filling tre hic;:•dall was reclaimed to a sloe rrich did not exceE-1 the
dESignE(1 S1Gpe.
Based upon my ins~ecticn of the site a.d observztions Cade by the I•II.RD, I feel
that the rune bench nutslope, the tackfilled hichwall, and the borrow area are
adewately reclai^~ed in accordance with the approved reclamation plan for Phase
1 bond release. The permanent diversion, however, is not adequately reclaimed
and is not furctioning as designed as evidenced by tl:e large amount of pcndinq
water. The 1•IIRD and tre Company engire~r have di=_cussed remedial mcssures to
be taken by the Cn;*.~any kilen weather per, tits. F4.RD s~c,ested that the Cocr~any
regrade tr:e bench to achieve a 5°s grade into the permanent diversion and regrade
t`:e diversion to achieve a 2~ grade along t`te diversion. I concur with t':e
6?.RD's sucgesticn. The bef~ch outslope has not shown ary movement other t:'~an i
e.~cpected due to settlement. The outslope is surveyed quarterly and the
piezeometer network is monitored montrly. The cutslope shows no signs o~ being
unstable at this time. I:owever, a properly functioning Permanent diversion is
necessary to insure the future stability of the outslore. Therefore, I do not
reccmnend Phase 1 bond release until Blue Ribbon Coal Canaan}• corrects t`.e
draina;;e proble_^~ cf the permanent diversion.
Sutmitted by a J ~r~.uvU'J~- 1 I ~ ~ _
Late
r^r ~ r9
1,(av'P$~ 0.vrr S0 r, 2 O g
Section l:hiei Date
