E-7
• period, with the start of re vegetation activities corresponding to the first
fall season following project cessation.
E.4.8 Surface and Ground Water Protection
Potential ground water impacts could result from various activities
associated with the Pilot Solution Mining operation unless mitigation
measures are instituted. Potential ground water impacts could result from
well drilling and solution mining. However, since the wells will be cased
and cemented into the production zone, these impacts will be minimized. The
cement or plugging nud will ensure that all aquifers will remain isolated
and precludes intermingling of waters. All production wells will be
pressure-tested prior to production and will be monitored during production
to ensure against leakage. As a back-up, a monitor well will be closely
monitored to detect any ground water impacts.
Use of lined evaporation ponds will ensure that salt-laden waste waters will
• not contaminate either surface or ground water. Surface water quality will
be further protected by using runoff diversion ditches and a desiltation
pond. No on-site disposal of anywastes (except domestic sewage) will occur.
Due to the small scale and short duration of the Pilot solution mining
operations, negligitlle impacts are anticipated on the water rights of
others. Consequently, no alternative water sources are being considered.
Solution mining cYlaracteristically results in only minimal surface
disturbance. As a result, no effects on the recharge capacity of the
affected area are anticipated.
All applicable Colorado and federal laws concerning water rights, water
quality, and dredge and fill requirements will be properly addressed under
separate permitting documents.
•
THIS DOCUMENT CONTAINS TRADE SECRETS AND PRIVILEGED, CONFIDENTIAL AND
PROPRIETARY COMMERCIAL, FINANCIAL, GEOLOGICAL AND GEOPHYSICAL DATA AND
INFORMATION.
