E-6
• E.4 ,6 Plant Decommissioning
As mentioned previously, the Pilot Plant facilities may be used in whole or
in part for future commercial mining. If the facilities are not used, they
will be dismantled and the area will be reclaimed. Surface facilities,
including buildings, bins, and equipment will be dismantled and removed form
the site. Concrete foundations and slabs will be broken and buried on-site.
Topsoil will be spread to an average depth of six to twelve inches. All
disturbed areas will be revegetated.
The natural gas and water pipelines will be disconnected, purged, and left
in place as these areas will have already been reclaimed and revegetated.
Solids remaining in the evaporation ponds will be removed from the site for
sale or disposal at an approved off-site landfill.
Following removal and proper disposal of the solids (salts), the pond liners
• will be removed and the ponds will be recontoured to approximate premining
topography (Exhibit F). As with the other disturbed areas, topsoil will be
replaced and the areas will be revegetated.
The production well:a, when abandoned, will be plugged at the bottom of the
casing and will be filled with a gel plugging mud or with cement. Surface
casings will be cut to a depth of no less than three feet from surface.
The access roads to the site will not be reclaimed, per the desires of the
BLM. Rather, they will be left in place to afford access to the area for
other purposes.
E,4 ,7 Reclamation Schedule
Figure E-I provides a schedule of reclamation activities. Due to the
limited extent of acreage disturbed (13.9 acres), the entire area will be
reclaimed at one time (i,e., no "phased" reclamation). The abandonment and
. reclamation schedule is referenced to the first fall following cessation of
operations. As shown, abandonment activities will take place over a 10-week
THIS DOCUMENT CONTAINS TRADE SECRETS AND PRIVILEGED, CONFIDENTIAL AND _ ,-
PROPRIETARY COMMERCIAL, FINANCIAL, GEOLOGICAL AND GEOPHYSICAL DATA AND ',
INFORMATION.
